To Do

Cortes Island is removed from the hustle and bustle of mainstream life and gives visitors the opportunity to experience nature in a comfortable resort setting. There are many activities available to the visitor. May we suggest the following:

  • Walk to Whaletown - Paved road through pastoral countryside. Picturesque post office, and government dock in Whaletown. potter, church, (name?)library
  • Hike the small park on the Gorge - This small Regional Park is a delightful oasis of "Quiet" in a beautiful rock bluff and treed area.
  • Shellfish Harvesting - Dinghy or drive to Manson's Lagoon. This is a Provincial Park reserved for recreational shellfish harvesting . (Note: You will need a fishing licence to harvest shellfish). Most beaches are "Private Oyster Leases."
  • Campbell River Day Trip - "Cortes Connection" operates to Campbell River. Check schedule. (250) 935-6911.
  • Trude's Cafe - Serving Espresso and freshly baked cakes.
  • Boat rental - We have boats available for fishing or local sightseeing, equipped with electric start motors.
  • Car Rental - Available for hourly, half or full day rentals. A great way to tour the island or go to Hague lake for a swim.
  • Beaches/Swimming - There is fresh water swimming at Hague Lake. Beautiful beaches at Shark Spit, Manson's Landing and Smelt Bay for salt water swimming.
  • Pot Luck Dinners - The Gazebo in the Campground is available for group functions such as Pot Lucks, Happy Hour, or barbeque. This must be booked ahead with the office no charge to guests. Seaside campfire/picnic area access for guests until 10:00 pm.
  • Boat and Whale Watching Tours - Available through Heriot Bay Inn. (250) 285-3322.
  • Kayaking – Kayak rentals are available on site or we will gladly recommend local kayaking operators who provide tours.
